Introduction

This former Benedictine and Cluniac monastery is a masterpiece of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture. It has been listed as a World Heritage Site since 1979.

Opening Hours & Admission

The abbey is open all year round on appointment, except from 15th Januray to 15th February. It can also be visited by guided tours at fixed times between Easter and All Saints' Day (1st November). There are six different tours, lasting from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours. are available in French, English, Spanish, and some in German as well.

Tours start from 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 10:30 am and 11:00 am on Sundays and Mondays. In July and August, tours are held every day except Tuesdays from 10:30 am, 11:00 am, 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm. The number of people is limited so it is advisable to reserve in advance (call +33 3 86 32 35 65). Annual closing days are 1st January, 8th May, 11th November and on Catholic holidays (Ascension, Assumption, All Saints, Christmas).

The price for each tour is 7.5 € for adults, 5.5 € for students and children above 12, and 3.5 € for children under 12. One of the tours, the cheminement accompagné dans la Basilique ('guided walk in the basilica' ; 45 min) is cheaper: 2.5 € for everyone.
