Stirling Castle
Attractions
| Stirling |

Stirling is a historic city centred around its magnificent castle, which sits atop an extinct volcano and was once a favoured residence of Scottish monarchs. The castle played a pivotal role in Scotland's Wars of Independence, with nearby locations marking William Wallace's victory at Stirling Bridge in 1297 and Robert the Bruce's triumph at Bannockburn in 1314. Visitors can explore the castle's Renaissance Royal Palace, restored to its 1540s splendour, and climb the National Wallace Monument's 246 steps for panoramic views whilst viewing Wallace's legendary battle-sword in the Hall of Arms. The city, which received its status from Queen Elizabeth II in 2002, offers additional attractions including Blair Drummond Safari Park where visitors can encounter elephants and lions, and the surrounding area provides access to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
