Updated phylogenetic tree of E-V13

Among Albanians, E-V13 Z5018/S2979 subclades very likely represent the bulk of Proto-Albanian population who mixed with other Latin speaking people.

In any case I think they came down in some sort of tribal/ethnic organisation, to put it that way. That wasn't just random Romanised people, but whatever they were, they came down in an organised way as a group. Such a significant pulse migration of related males is extremely unlikely to have been just "trickling down" of some "generic provincial Romans".
Since branches of Z5017/CTS9320 are also quite common in Albanians, yet more often connected to Vlachs, I guess they had a "stop" somewhere along the Serbian Danube, in former Basarabi territory, the hotspot for CTS9320.

I don't think they were quite so north though, we still do not fully understand ancient Balkans demographics.

If they were down to the Danube or even further South, especially E-FGC11451 and E-L241, it is not easy to explain why they have such a strong presence in both ancient and modern DNA records to the North of the Carpathians, but none South or East of it.
They were already so big, in the Iron Age, that they need a lot of space, and you can, just like for the LBA, go from one region to the next, and look at how much occupation they got from whom. I see no indication for a Southern presence for the bulk of these branches South of the Danube at all.

The area directly at and South of the Danube was completely covered by E-Z5017/CTS9320 and especially to the East by Y3183. That E-FGC11451 and E-L241 was South of CTS9320 in the pre-Roman period is completely out of question from my point of view. If they would, which culture and people? And the Balkan samples would be full of them, considering their numbers. But we primarily get CTS9320 and BY5022 as the main branches of the South and East in the Pre-Roman and early Roman period. This is no accident or coincidence, since the ancient DNA record and the modern phylogeny and trends are in accordance for the positioning of these branches.

I made maps for four stages of the expansion of the main E-V13 branches, showing the movements associated with their founder events, showing the centre of gravity for the respective branches in the respective periods:

Main-Branch-Migrations-1a.jpg

The only main branch which possibly to likely moved South of the Danube in larger numbers before Gáva-related Channelled Ware was E-BY5022 with ZPC. It is quite characteristic of the observable patterns that of the main branches analysed in my earlier posts, it is the only one which has a much earlier main founder event, already at the very beginning of the MBA, and a comparatively very weak expansion (compared to the main Northern branches) in the LBA-EIA transition. This points to the four Northern-central branches E-FGC11451, E-L241, E-Y3183 and E-CTS9320 participating in a big expansion event - highly likely Gáva-related Channelled Ware, which did not that much for E-BY5022. The most likely expansion: E-BY5022 had a main expansion with Verbicoara-Tei into Zimnicea-Plovdiv-Cerkovna and was rather hit by the Gáva-related Channelled Ware expansion, with very little advantages for it. Whereas for the "Northern 4", it was their main, defining expansion event, from Gáva-related Channelled Ware, into the main group of Basarabi, possibly also Vekerzug-Kustanovice (for E-FGC11451+E-L241 in particular) and later Dacians.
