Resident evil 9 and Silksong on Xbox series x
Hades 2 on Switch 2

Been waiting so long for RE 9 as resident evil is one of my all time favorite gaming series HANDS DOWN!!!! Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 4 Remake, RE 7, RE 8 all absolute masterpieces (with the best IMO being RE 7 RE 8 and RE 4).

I belong to the generation that played Resident Evil back when the first game came out in 1996. The series lost its appeal after RE4 because it went from survival horror to something resembling shooters and action games. This being said, RE4 is the most "recent" games in the series I have played, which was back in 2005 after it got released for the PS2. It was a fun game but it was no longer Resident Evil to me. My favorites are the original RE2, Code: Veronica and the remake of the first game from 2002. I said RE4 is the most recent I have played but I also played the remake of RE2. But to me, that's not really a new game but a remake of an already existing game. Certainly a well-made remake and I beat it several times, probably because it's relatively short. But it cannot compete with the original in terms of atmosphere, music, puzzles, locations. The original came with two different scenarios for each character (Leon and Claire), so Mr.X was avoidable in Leon's A scenario. I hated Mr.X in the remake. He's neither scary nor a difficult enemy. He's just plain annoying and a waste of time because of the amount of backtracking he forces you to do. Is that supposed to make us feel like the game was longer than it actually was? And I'm glad they didn't put that stupid hat on his head in the original. It looks so infantile and pointless.

I rarely play these days. The most recent game I beat was the original Deus Ex. A couple of months ago I played two Hideo Kojima classics, Snatcher and Policenauts. The next game I'll be playing is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. The first two Max Payne games are also personal favorites, so I'm sure I'm gonna go back to them soon.

That’s ok! While I did enjoy the remake of re 2, and the orphanage was a nice disturbing addition, I wasn’t a fan of Mr x as well bc he’d always block hallways stalling my progress so I’d have to reroute into a diffenrt room and wait for him. It wasn’t fun

Playing Shinobi: Art of Vengeance on hardcore mode and it’s brutal as hell!

Also replaying resident evil 9 on insanity mode and from scratch. No ng+ carryover and it’s brutal as hell. This spider boss took me so many tries bc my weapons didn’t have the proper upgrades

Speaking of difficult bosses, I recently beat another classic: Half-Life. Its final boss is very hard to beat, even at medium/normal difficulty. Today that would be considered the insanity mode, I guess. Another extremely difficult boss that comes to mind is that Terminator skull from the Sega Genesis game RoboCop Versus The Terminator. I think there's just one default difficulty mode - the totally deranged, insane skull-f**kery mode (by today's standards). I never beat that boss, even after I had amassed 30+ lives. The problem is that you lose your most powerful weapon the first time you die. You're left with the standard RoboCop gun which doesn't do much damage. It's not the skull that's the problem but the army of Terminators it sends after you, left and right. That is the most insane boss fight I remember.

Those two games came out during a time when games weren’t nearly as forgiving as they are now. Old Sega and snes games are absolutely brutal by today’s standards, and game over means you start the game over. And I know half life is considered one of the best games in gaming history, way ahead of its time

I love when sick strats work out for me, I had to take on a bunch of elite soldiers in re 9 insanity mode but decided to freee the licker monster thinking it would distract them and lo and behold it did, so I hid in the corner watching them crowd around the beast and tossed a grenade at the crowd, then took out my rifle and sniped them to death!! Hahaha 😈😈.

Modern games are built to keep you bogged down in a loop. They don't offer any real sense of accomplishment, humor or even a good story. Modern games are like "Heroin Hero" from South Park and a major source of alienation. At least they're designed to remedy some of the social alienation. Back in the day, games were made to be beaten, so you can go back to your life and spend time with your friends.

My knowledge of modern games is obviously limited (by choice) but "The Last of Us" may be a very challenging game in the more difficult settings. That's one of the very few modern games I have enjoyed.

Just bought ninja gaiden 4, playing on hard mode. Can’t say if it’s good or bad yet, as I’m only at level 3.
