Yea he's a smart guy. Makes sense that the change would be internal. People are trying really hard to find as much non-European influence as possible.
Those Italian gardens are beautiful. They have a very majestic quality that English gardens lack. Of course English gardens have a rustic quality to them that doesn't seem to be present in Italian gardens to the same degree. Like you said they make a good combination.
