3 Egyptian mummy faces revealed in stunning reconstruction (msn.com)

These were the same three from this study:

This really has nothing to do with ancient Egypt.
More interesting will be the reconstruction, for example, from 2000-2500 BC or earlier.

These three individuals were about half-Natufian and the rest being more Iran_N and Anatolia_N. I would assume they would be even more Natufian-like before that time.

Their phenotype is pretty diverse, but their genetics are pretty uniform.

Iran_N came later to the Levant, vs the other ancestry.

You can find Egyptians and North Africans like this today. Also interesting from the Greco-Roman period are the Fayyum Mummy portraits, which look fairly realistic.

Does it mean that natufian is close to african like one anthropologist opinion?

It is a further surprise that the Epipalaeolithic Natufian of Israel from whom the Neolithic realm was assumed to arise has a clear link to Sub-Saharan Africa.

If I saw the guy on the right, walking on the street today, I would probably assume he was Puerto Rican.

So would I, and the one to the far left a very tan Mexican. Meanwhile, the one in the middle, if they hadn't made him so dark, wouldn't look out of place in Europe.

I've seen situations like this before. When people are really admixed, the phenotypes can fool you.

There have been quite a few good papers on New World Hispanics. Puerto Ricans have a mix of all three "continental groups": European, Asian (Amerindian), and African. However, the percentages vary quite a bit from individual to individual.

Mexicans only have about 5% SSA on average, with the rest being Spanish (usually) and Amerindian, and the "average" Mexican being about half Amerindian.

There is definitely some variety in Tunisia, but most Tunisians don't look like her. She could be southern French or Northern Italian. Given Tunisia's history that ancestry could actually be part of her make-up.

They don't look much like the Egyptian reconstructions to me. They look more like Mediterraneans with about 20-25% SSA.

Agree as a whole, but on the average I see on the pictures, I would say rather 15% of SSA (of course, individuals have more, others less, as always). Just sliting hairs as often! I think that out of great towns, some great oppositions could exist between Tunisie regions cncerning SSA introgressions.
