AncestryDNA Ancestry DNA Update

Umm. mine is still July?? Any reason why I didn't get updated?

mine updated last night

80% north italian
12% germanic europe
6% southern italy
2% the balkans

drilling down, it seems the southern italian is via a link from Termoli, Molise.....with a surname Barone

seems like ancestry base your admixture based on your close matches and where they come from.
this one person from molise is a second cousin once removed and his ancestors are from padova region....they left for molise prior WW1

interesting is that i removed my 2nd cousins from toulouse france area a year ago (as per their request ) and i lost the 3% of french i once had

It seems like Balkan and Greece & Albania is pretty interchangeable as AncestryDNA components.

I get 10% Greek, and a 2% Balkan

A cousin once-removed from my mother's side (100% from my mom's town of Molfetta) get's zero Greek & Albania and 14% Balkan.

Ancestry's White Paper does not state this as the basis of how they decide on admixture percentages.
They rely on their well-documented Reference Samples.

Do you think G25 is any better?

New update: lost Cyprus and Eastern Europe & Russia, gained Balkans, Russia and Southern Italy, which Ancestry just changed to Southern Italy & the Eastern Mediterranean. These ancestries are widespread at low numbers among many matches. A number of them also has higher amounts of one or more of the ancestries.

which G25 model to compare with ?
link it

have this as someone stated for europeans

Distance: 0.0164% / 0.01635064
63.0 ITALIAN_NORTH
14.6 BALTIC
9.2 BALKAN
5.8 ITALIAN_CENTRAL
3.9 SICILIAN
3.5 ENGLISH

I notice that Southern Italy has now become Southern Italy & the Eastern Mediterranean.

Basically unchanged, except it now covers a broader sub-region, while still indicating a very strong connection, which is 100% true. All of my ancestry, from time immemorial, comes from Apulia, specifically Bari.

Practically half Spanish with the new update.

Is ancestry serious in there new regions ?

Southern Italy & the Eastern Mediterranean are from
Primarily located in:
Italy, Crete, Greek Islands, Türkiye

Reallly Turkey !?!.....ancestry has lost all credability.

It looks like the old Greek and Roman worlds, and the area of academic interest these days: the source for Republican and Imperial Rome migrations. Perhaps Ancestry DNA has enough samples to make such a call. Hopefully they provide an explanation.

One thing is clear for South Greece aka mostly Peloponnese, that people with Mani and Aegean Islands ancestry have much higher “East Mediterranean” ancestry. These areas help “seed” the rest because of the deep admixture in the many Ancestry matches.
