I recently took a DNA test to explore my Turkish ancestry and determine if my maternal grandfather was of Tatar heritage. People had been asking my grandfather and my aunts if they're Tatar or Central Asian because of their phenotype. Andronovo-Turanid and Pontid are dominant on my maternal side, and interestingly, they have pale skin (even I have a skin tone between pale and fair, with a noticeable pinkish texture on my face, arms, hands, etc.).

I added my results from GEDmatch, Vahaduo, and IllustrativeDNA

  • Paternal Side: Erzincan/Refahiye
  • Maternal Side: Eskişehir/Sivrihisar
  • Paternal Grandmother: Laz from Trabzon/Vakfıkebir
  • Haplogroup: J-L70

I’m curious about the Baltic and North European percentages in my results (which are a bit high for a Turkish person).

Could these percentages support my theory about my grandfather’s Tatar lineage?

What are your Eurogenes K36 results?

Hopefully you can find out. As you probably already know r/IllustrativeDNA is very Turkish. Especially if you feel comfortable sharing coordinates or your GEDMatch id with somebody who seems knowledgeable, you'd probably find a couple good answers pretty fast

Hi Aleror747, do you have any further subclade for your paternal JL70? regards

The Baltic and North European percentages in your results might hint at Tatar ancestry since Tatars have a mix of Turkic, Mongolic, and Finno-Ugric influences, which can show up in those regions genetically. Eskişehir has a known Tatar population, so that could support your theory.
