Appian Illyrian Wars: THE Greeks call those people Illyrians who occupy the region beyond Macedonia and Thrace from Chaonia and Thesprotia to the river Ister (Danube). This is the length of the country. Its breadth is from Macedonia and the mountains of Thrace to Pannonia and the Adriatic and...
Probably the death of Glaucias was an incentive/excuse for Pyrrhus to expand north.
The Illyrian Dassaretti were allied to the Romans in the battles against Macedonias.
Also when Augustus became the first emperor he made a campaign to bring order against various illyrian tribes because they...
There is another city Manduria witch some suggest to be explaind by gheg albanian Mandej+Uria meaning beyond or after Uria(ancient name of Oria) in line the description as a frontier post between Messaps and Tarantines.
There seems to be two of them, Amantes in Amantia a polis reported to have been located between Apollonia and Orikos, and Amantini in northen Illyria.
Anyhow I would stay away from the likes of Elena Kocaqi.
Glaucias and the Taulanti are well attested in classical litterature to have lived in the inland's of Epidamn/Dyrrachium. As a matter of facts in 335 BC, Alexander the Great fought against a coalition of Cleitus (son of dardanian king Bardylis) and Glaucias king of the Taulanti for the control...
Well Pyrrhus was raised at the court of the Taulantis by their king Glaucias so he spoke illyrian. Even Matzinger accepts that there is a conection of albanian language with Taulanti(talantis->dallandyshe). Matzinger also accepts a relationship between messapic and albanian. So this is how...
I have to revise this theory, they din't take the plane.
What happened was that during the political election in Illyria the right wing party of Hunters-Gatherers lost to the liberal left party of Farmer-Herders.
The new new government then welcomed this Messapian(proto-albanian) illegal...
There were no Illyrians in 1700 BC. In dalmatia in 1700 BC there were proto-albanian speakers. Later in the 6th century BC greeks would meet these proto-albanians speakers and call them Illyrians.
That's what Matzinger is trying to say i think.
I would stay away from anything published by the serbs from 1980 to at least 2010. That was pure propaganda commissioned and imposed by politicians and the toxic situation created also by the media and the intelectual elites. On page 106 I posted an excerpt by Aleksander Stipcevic explaining...
It is impossible for the tosk to have come from the north. Vlorë is still called Vlonë in geg witch means that Albanian speakers had to be already in Vlonë before the dialect split, ie before the slavic incursions.
p.s. it doesn't let me quote the image.
Here is an excerpt from before the internet era that explains beautifully what is going on in this thread.

Does Matzinger explain how shepherds from serbia-bulgaria border in the 4th century AD learned how to call the swallow(bird) dallandyshe when according to him the illyrians were romanised and the Taulanti ( ->talantis ->dallandyshe) were long gone almost a millenia before?
Even the romanians use...
Epidamn was founded by a barbarian (non greek) king called Epidamnus and the port was erected by his nephew Dyrrachus. The Greeks came later as colonist for trade thats why they never dwelled inland.
The Taulanti clearly spoke some a form of proto albanian as attested by their name Taulantis ->...
What bothers me the most is that after this results I'm afraid that the DNA analysis of the tomb of Vergina (Philip II & co) will be postponed for a long time. Really a mised opportunity to know more about a possible importan figure of antiquitie.
The reason why albanian picked up more latin than greek is not related much to geography. It is the same reason why the indians picked up more english than chinese or persian even though the British were living far away.
In my opinion, if there was a rhoctacism of a foreigner who heard a local it most probably was from r->l. For example chinese people would pronounce Arban as Alban. Also when kids start talking at the beginning they have difficulties of pronouncing 'r' and render it as 'l' and only later they...
