Caves of the Vézère Valley.

Introduction

The Vézère valley contains 147 prehistoric sites dating from the Palaeolithic, including 25 decorated caves, which are some of the most splendid of their kind in the world.

The most famous one, Lascaux is now off-limits to the public to prevent deterioration, but visitors are allowed in the caves of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac and Roc de Saint-Cirq ("Sorcerer's Cave").

The archeological finds of the valley can be seen at the National Prehistory Museum, housed in Tayac Castle.
